Children and Youth Ministries Coordinator

Job Summary:

We are searching for a children and youth ministries coordinator who will lead the development and oversight of ministries for nursery through 12th grade at our church. The purpose of this position is to lead and implement these ministries so children, youth, parents, and volunteers will develop a deeper walk with Christ as we strive to complete God’s Plan for Rockford United Methodist Church. The position is for 30 hours per week, and hours will be logged and submitted bi-weekly. The pay rate will be based on experience and the church’s ability. A flexible spending account may be possible, but no further benefits will be offered. The position will be reviewed annually.

Broad Statement of Responsibilities:

  • Planning age-appropriate curriculum
  • Building and coordinating a team of volunteers to implement ministry
  • Actively connecting with children, youth, and parents while leading families to become passionate followers of Jesus Christ
  • Working with the Nursery Coordinator to ensure the Nursery is staffed with volunteers on Sunday mornings and during other programming as needed
  • Writing and teaching a 3-5 minute lesson for the “Children’s Moment” every Sunday during the service
  • Reporting to the pastor and the Staff-Parish Relations Committee while working alongside the Education Committee
  • Participating in a variety of meetings relating to children and youth ministries

Experience/Qualifications:

  • Must be a Christian – a believer and follower of Jesus Christ
  • Completed or pursuing a degree in Ministry, Biblical Studies, or Theology preferred
  • Experienced leading children, youth, and volunteers in developing and guiding children/youth Christian education programming
  • Self-motivated, requiring little supervision
  • Physically able to perform assigned work (lift up to 40 pounds and occasionally ambulate long distances, frequently ambulating short distances).
  • Experience with basic technology and computer software (Microsoft Office, Google Workspace, Canva, etc.)
  • Ability to navigate stressful situations with grace
