City of Rockford Construction Updates
The City of Rockford will be undertaking several construction projects this summer. Some of these projects will impact how the congregation will get to the church and navigate the downtown area. We will try to keep the information updated as much as possible. You can check back here for updates or visit the City of Rockford’s website: https://rockford.mi.us/public_services/city_projects.php.
Work has begun at the intersection of Main Street and Division/10 Mile Rd. This is in preparation for the Kent County Road Commission to resurface Division/10 Mile from Main Street to Wolverine Blvd. This intersection will be improved with new traffic lights and enhanced turning radius.
Resurfacing is supposed to begin after the Start of Summer weekend (June 9). During this project a detour will be in place. Those traveling Westbound on Division/10 Mile will need to take the detour; while those traveling Eastbound will be able to drive on Division/10 Mile – but there may be intermittent lane closures. While the road is being resurfaced, the City of Rockford will be replacing some of the pipes connecting the house to the water supply in the construction zone. Additionally, some utility work will be done on Fremont Street south of Division/10 Mile. We are uncertain how much of Fremont will be closed during the utility work and how long the work will take. It is estimated the surfacing work will be completed some time in July 2025.
Meanwhile, the City is also working on Garden Park by the dam, so this will affect Bridge Street where they may have to close Bridge Street from time to time. Hotel Rose work is expected to be finished some time in August. After construction is done, the current closure on Main Street will be maintained while they furnish the rooms with beds and furniture and get the hotel ready to open. Utility work and repaving of the parking lot by the Towers building will also take place in the coming months.
While work is going on this summer into fall, please be aware we may have people wanting to park in the church parking lot. We will do our best to make room for our people to park in the lot when we have events happening in the church, but we will have to see how the public responds. You may see several cars in the lot on days we don’t have activities at the church. You can contact the church office with any questions or concerns.
