RUMC is first a Christian church. That is, we believe and preach the Good News that Jesus Christ was crucified, eternally redeeming his disciples from their sins.
We are a United Methodist Church and respect our place in the history of the denomination. We maintain traditional Weslyan beliefs such as:
- The Bible as the primary basis for belief
- An emphasis on Christian experience
- Importance of Christian habits and disciplines
- A focus on community responsibility
- A call to share what we have experienced
Our current mission statement, created on November 14, 2009, reflects both what we believe our strengths are as a church, and where we are challenging our congregation to improve. Our mission statement defines our purpose and primary objectives in the short-term.
We strive to be…
Our mission is to practice hospitality to all those we meet, inside and outside our church.
Our mission is to be more than a collection of individuals, but a congregation of Christians who care for each other, pray for each other, and encourage each other.
Our mission is to focus not on ourselves but always on God, praising Him through our thoughts, our words, and our deeds, both in and out of the church building.
that reaches out
Our mission is to be a church that extends the love of Christ beyond ourselves to others in our community, nation, and world.
to serve others
Our mission is to show others the love of Christ not only in word but in deed.
and spreads the Good News of Jesus Christ
Our mission is to keep the message of Christ fundamental, “fixing our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy set before him endured the cross.”
Our vision statement, also composed in November 2009, defines our purpose in terms of our values. It gives our congregation direction about how we are expected to behave and inspires us to give our best. It communicates with our community why they should unite with us.
To fulfill our ministries, we, the members of Rockford United Methodist Church will, with God’s help, seek to grow more
- Vital in worship and praise
- Dynamic in proclamation
- Effective in teaching
- Loving in fellowship
- Faithful in stewardship
- Compassionate in service
