Small Groups

Small Group News

Happy November to all! This is the perfect time to give thanks for the opportunity to participate in a variety of Small Groups here at RUMC. If you were hoping to be a bit more “connected” to both your church and your community, joining a small group is the way to do it!

If you’re anything like me, you’re thinking “I’m too busy for another activity” or “What if I join and find it’s not the right fit for me”? Don’t worry, it’s my job to help you find the right match.

Watch the newsletter next month for a list of our current small groups and a brief description for each of them. Should you wish to find out more information on any of them, I’m here to help. Call me with your questions. Equally as important, if you have an idea for a group you’ve been wanting to see but we don’t offer, let me know and I’ll do my best to make it happen.

Thank you for all you do for Rockford United Methodist Church!

Sue DeHoek
Small Group Coordinator

Small Groups are offered for adults.  Here is a listing of some of the things offered.  If you have an interest in any of these groups, please contact the church office.

RUMC Adult Group  This is a group for adults at RUMC who want to get to know other adults in the church. It’s a place for socializing with your church family and for getting to know adults who want more for their church. Our vision for this group is that once people begin to get to know each other and create connections, they can then define what other things they’d like to pursue. Maybe it’s a small group spin off, marriage course, softball team, monthly dinner meeting, coffee; whatever it is, we want for God to be able to move and help us to become a real “family of God.”

God wants more for us than Sunday handshakes, brief conversations and forgetting each other’s names. God wants us to struggle together, celebrate together and grow in His word together. We hope this RUMC Adults group will help us do that!  Contact Suzi Richards with ideas for future meetings.

Brothers Matter (formerly Band of Brothers):   As Ecclesiastics 4:8-12 teaches us “A cord of three strands is not quickly broken.”  In keeping with God’s word, men are called to support, encourage, and love one another. More information about growing fellowship among RUMC men will be shared over the next few weeks.  During this time, please prayerfully consider how such a journey among other RUMC men, regardless of age, background, or gifts, may help you grow in Christ.  Thanks!  This men’s group will meet at 8:00 am on Sat., November 4.  For questions, contact Chip Stevers,

New Men’s Small Group: Join us, Mondays at 9 PM after evening activities so that dads can tuck their children into bed. Start your week right, and deepen your relationship with God and with brothers in Christ.  Contact Chad Inman at tel:(616)402-5562 for more details.

Adult 50+ Potluck  – Our November potluck will meet Thursday, November 9th, at noon in Fellowship Hall.  Please bring your own table service and dish to share. Beverages provided. Everyone 50+ are welcome. Join us, we always have great food and great fun!

Senior Connections – a fellowship group, welcomes all of those over 60 to join in our activities and adventures. Please watch the bulletin above the water fountain near the restrooms for announcements.

  • Scrabble will begin Monday, November 6 at 1:00 pm at Linda Larson’s home, 7143 Tramore Court, Belmont. It’s easy to find, but call Linda at 616-883-6249 for directions.
  • On November 12th, we will be going to DeVos Place to see a presentation by the Grand Rapids Symphony Pops.  We will enjoy seeing the movie “An American in Paris” while the symphony provides the music.  The concert is at 3:00 PM and we will carpool from the church at 2:00 PM.  Assuming we have 20 people going, and we are pretty sure we will, the price per person will be $26.40 each.  We need to know who wants a ticket by Wednesday November 1, so we can order them.  We can still order after Nov. 1, but we cannot guarantee the seats will all be together.  To sign up for tickets or if you have questions, please call Linda Larson at 883-6249 or Nancy Hinton at 466-4728.

Upcoming events include: Christmas Party at the Larson Home. We look forward to spending time with you!

Amity Circle meet on the 2nd Monday of the month at 1:00pm for Bible study and discussion. The women meet in the Fellowship Hall.    Our next meeting will be November 13th.  Contact Lynne Harms with questions.

Widowed Persons Support Group: Will meet on November 28th in the Wesley Room from 7-8:30 pm.  The topic for the November meeting is “Effective Ways to Manage Holidays”. This group meets the 4th Tuesday of each month and is sponsored by Widowed Persons Service.

Hasenpfeffer Night meet on the 2nd Friday of the month. Join us Friday, November 17th at 7:00 pm, in the Fellowship Hall, for a night of cards, fun and fellowship. If you do not know how to play the game of Hasenpfeffer, we will be happy to teach you.  Bring a snack to share, beverages will be provided.

In addition to these groups,  please see our other education opportunities.
